Wondering Where to Celebrate Canada 150 in WILD Alberta?


July 1, 2017, will be a huge day for Canadians across the country. If you’re looking to go where the biggest and best 150 celebrations are being held in Northern Alberta, we have done a little research for you to help you find the right WILD Alberta Destination!

The County of Barrhead

There are many activities to check out in the county of Barrhead:  Come and visit the Barrhead County Council at the BBQ during the Athabasca River Brigade canoe arrival ceremony on June 28. Then On July 1 Join us in Neerlandia for a family fun event starting at 730 am with a traditional pancake breakfast followed by a parade starting at 10:30 a.m. There will be a multitude of kid friendly activities such as bouncy castles and a water ramp.  The balloon release at 1pm. There will be helicopter rides through the day and a pioneer classroom where you can dress in clothing from that period and go back to school. They will be hosting the Famers Olympics and many more fun and zany activities for all to enjoy. The evening will end with a spectacular fireworks event.  If you are looking for a quieter evening why not take a drive to Thunder Lake for the firework display.

Lac Ste Anne County

Make sure you’re in Alberta Beach for the firework display for this Canada’s 150th! Check out the seasoning opening of Heritage Village JULY 1st 1-6 pm at 5000 – 47 street (behind the Alberta Beach Hotel and The Seniors Centre).  Join us for cake and Timmies Coffee. Tour the park, you won’t be disappointed!!

Town of Mayerthorpe

Join Mayerthorpe in Lac Ste Anne County for a sparkling good Canada day at the Mayerthorpe Diamond Centre. This year’s festivities include and family swim, a bike parade, a great movie, then when you have worked up an appetite from all the day’s activities, a free BBQ. Then end the evening off by dancing the night away and watching the fireworks sparkle in the sky.

Town of Swan Hills

Come participate in a Canada 150 scavenger Hunt in the Town of Swan Hills.  Find a maple leaf hidden around town and receive a magical prize at the free BBQ.  The festivities begin at 11 am with a Welcome ceremony.  There are fun children’s activities all day in the arena. Come see what swan Hills has to offer.

Village of Wabamun

Looking for a low key relaxing Canada day, then look no further than the village of Wabamun. Join us in for a tour of the Museum and some cake and coffee.

Town of Westlock

Experience a Magical Canada Day in Westlock with events for the whole family. There is a fly over by a Pair of CF-18 Hornets. They will have Ukrainian Dance performances, Indigenous entertainment, A Westlock Talent showcase, Musical performances, Magic shows, and of course some fireworks! Event starts at 2:00pm in the parking of the lot of the Spirit Centre

Woodlands County

Join Woodlands for two days of jam-packed fun and entertainment to celebrate Canada Day!  On June 28 Celebrate Canada’s 150th in Fort Assiniboine.  The Athabasca River Brigade has scheduled a canoe arrival ceremony which will be best viewed at 3:30 p.m. behind the Legion and Arena – Fort Assiniboine Agriculture Centre.  A Landing Ceremony is scheduled for 3:45 p.m. at the Woodlands RV Park and Marina, and a Parade will follow at 4:00 p.m.

The celebration will include a free BBQ, and entertainment by Michael Mitchell, Metis Child Dancers, and Calvin Vollrath.

July 1 kicks off in downtown Whitecourt with a parade hosted by the Whitecourt Legion at 9:00 a.m.  Then head to the Whitecourt Seniors Circle for a pancake breakfast hosted by Whitecourt Town Council from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m.  Family events, activities, and performances are scheduled from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. in Rotary Park, and the evening entertainment, headlined by Bobby Wills, Starts at 7:00 p.m.  Celebrations will end with a firework display in Rotary Park.  See you there!
